Follow these steps for troubleshooting BlueDriver MAX device.

Step 1

Perform checklist before proceeding to Step 2

  1. Ensure ignition of the vehicle is set to “ON”, or engine is running.
  2. Note the LED status of BD MAX unit when attempting connection.
  3. If there is no light on the unit after a minute+, ensure the DLC fuse (OBDII port fuse) is not blown.
  4. Have you tried connecting to the unit within multiple vehicles?

Step 2

If LED status is:

  1. No LED light whatsoever
  2. Flashing blue that never stops
  3. Solid blue that never goes out (1+ minute)

Please proceed to https://www.bluedrivermax.com/returns stating the LED status (1, 2 and/or 3) in the notes.

LED Explanation

Important note: The LED will eventually shut off when the scanner is active, this is so the blue light isn’t distracting when logging live data.

Connecting via Bluetooth

General Notes

  • The scanner is only discoverable for a short period after being plugged in, ~60 seconds.
  • Pairing mode is not triggered of another paired phone/tablet connects to the scanner, or if the phone in use for connection is paired to another item (stereo, etc).
  • Pairing mode is only triggered after a full power cycle – removing the scanner and plugging it back in, if the scanner is left plugged in and wakes up from sleep mode it will not be pairable.
  • iOS devices cannot be paired with BlueDriver through Bluetooth settings of the phone/tablet directly.

Connection Instructions

  1. Fully close the app (ensure it is not running in the background).
  2. Unplug the BlueDriver if already plugged in.
  3. Place ignition into "ON" position, or have the engine running.
  4. Open your app, tap the ‘connect’ button.
  5. Plug in the BlueDriver (if you have not paired in ~60s return to step 2).
  6. Within 5-20 seconds your app should detect the scanner and prompt you to pair.

Start the app, tap the ‘connect’ button – the app will then show the option to scan for a new sensor.

Important note:

  • In app pairing on Android requires Location permissions – Android bundles these permissions so you can’t pair in app without it. If you deny the permission, you can pair manually in the phones Bluetooth menu, or alternatively you can pair in-app then revoke the app’s location services permissions after.
  • The app will only present the option to pair a new sensor if there are none currently paired. If a replacement scanner doesn't connect there’s a good chance the old one is still paired and the app is trying to connect to it – in which case you should unpair/forget the current saved pairing for the old unit, then relaunch the app to get the pairing option instead.
  • The app will automatically transition from ‘pairing’ to ‘connecting’ – if the vehicle is not responding and the app can’t connect to the computer, it may give the impression that pairing was unsuccessful, however in actuality it is paired but can’t connect to the vehicle.
